Campofelice Camping Village is a huge family-friendly campground with a hotel, located directly on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Tenero in canton Ticino. This corner of the lake is home to a row of campgrounds, and Campofelice is one of the most popular thanks to its 5-star facilities. It is just a short drive off the A2 motorway too, making it easily accessible and a great base to explore the Locarno-Ascona region.
What types of accommodation are on offer at Campofelice?
There is something for everybody accommodation wise at Campofelice, with a choice of cabins/chalets, caravan and tent pitches, and even the possibility of renting tents/caravans too. Pitch sizing varies from tight to XL an, accommodating smaller tents up to XL motorhomes.
And if camping really isn’t your thing but love the idea of using all its facilities, there is a hotel, with a real bed, onsite too.

What facilities does the campsite offer?
As expected of a five-star campground, all the necessary facilities are modern and clean. There are a variety of shower blocks, baby specific facilities, washing machines and dryers, kitchens and washing stations. There is even a dishwasher taking your stay here to a full-on glamping experience. The campground also has a big enough supermarket.
What activities does the campsite offer?
Whatever activities you can expect at a 5-star Kinder-hotel you can find here at Campofelice. From the kids’ cinema to the waterfront activities like paddleboarding, boating, tennis, gym, swimming pool, you will never get bored. They even have their ice cream shop. The kids will love the playground with its zipline and the varying daily activities programmes. Oh, and if you have a boat, you can moor it at their private pier.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner: what are your recommendations?
Honestly, we did not visit their dining options and decided to self-cater instead. We cooked either using the kitchen facilities or the onsite BBQ. We got most of our supplies from the onsite supermarket, but there is a massive COOP supermarket right next door, which self-catering a breeze. Plus, there is also no need to pre-order your bread here, we found that there was more than enough for everyone each morning.
What to see and do outside the campground?
The cities of Ascona and Locarno, which are within driving distance, have many, many great places to visit. Two nearby “must-see” attractions, the valleys Verzasca and Maggia Valley with their crystal clear but cold waters, are only a very short drive from the campsite. Also do not forget to stand on the dam where James Bond 007 in Goldeneye made his Bungy jump. Staying at the campground gives you the Ticino Pass which offers free public transport and other discounts in the region.

Any tips for what not to forget?
Don’t worry. Whatever you forget, you will be able to get it there. Large shops, as you find anywhere in Switzerland, are near to the campsite. But I suggest bringing along anything you want to use in the lake, such as stand-up paddleboards and the like.
Best way to book?
The campground does not take bookings for its pitches, which on the one hand makes planning a little complicated, but on the other means that even during high season you have a chance of snapping up a spot. However, rental accommodation is bookable through their website.

What sets this campground apart from the rest?
Campofelice’s size, combined with its 5-star facilities, sets itself apart from other campgrounds in the area. Plus you have everything you could ever want within walking distance, making it extremely family-friendly. If you are looking for a one-stop campground where you have entertainment at your fingertips, this is the ground for you.
What type of camper are you?
Now for something surprising: We are actually wild campers. Meaning we usually hike for several hours and camp under the stars ALONE. What were we doing at Campofelice??
HAHA, we wanted to give a 5-star campground a try and see if we enjoyed camping in a village-like setting. While I totally get why families book this place, the campground was too big and too busy for my liking. In the future, we will stick to smaller campgrounds with no organised activities apart from nature. If you ask my kids’ thought, they loved it. 😉
